Departures

Seven moves between eight cities: 4 by rail, 4 by air. One of them is both at once - the brigade crosses to Shenzhen by train before flying out. Six of the eight hops are ticketed and show their service number below. The other two are unbooked on purpose - frequent short corridors, bought on the ground.

★ Leg 01 · Hong Kong → Zhangjiajie
  • ~50 a day to Futian, roughly every 15 min · MTR Vibrant Express / China RailwayThe 20 minutes in the itinerary is the ride, not the day. Book Futian, not Shenzhen North: it is closer, it is in the CBD where lunch actually is, and Metro Line 11 runs from the same station straight to the airport in about 36 minutes. MTR opens border clearance 90 min before departure and reckons on 30-45 min to get through it - budget the full 90 for fifteen foreign passports. Work back from the 16:40 flight, not forward from breakfast: clearance plus the ride plus Line 11 is about 2h20 before any check-in cushion, so the Hong Kong morning ends around 11:00.Unbooked · Bought on the day. MTR sells the cross-boundary train at West Kowloon; Chris left it open because departures run roughly every 15 minutes.
  • ★ Suparna 7573 · 16:40 → 18:40Suparna Airlines (Y8), 737-800 - the only nonstopBooked: Suparna 7573, Shenzhen Bao'an 16:40 to Zhangjiajie Hehua 18:40. The standing question of whether it flies on Monday Oct 19 is answered - it does, and fourteen people are on it. Still one airline, one aircraft, one departure that day, so missing it costs the day rather than an hour, and the fallback is a morning decision rather than an evening rescue: rail from Shenzhen North to Zhangjiajie West, three a day, about 6 h. The four-a-week pattern was researched, not booked - one confirmed Monday does not verify the rest of the week.
★ Leg 02 · Zhangjiajie → Xi'an
  • ★ Sichuan 3258 · 11:05 → 12:30~2 a day, 14 a week · Sichuan Airlines (booked), also China EasternBooked: Sichuan Airlines 3258, 11:05 to 12:30 - the earliest nonstop, which is the one that preserves the single Xi'an day. The late bank at 22:45-23:50 would have landed after the airport metro closes at 22:20 and turned a CNY 7 ride into a 40 km taxi.
★ Leg 03 · Xi'an → Pingyao
  • ★ G2456 · 15:15 → 17:40~10 a day, roughly 06:30 to 19:05 · China Railway G/DBooked: G2456, Xi'an North 15:15 to Pingyao Gucheng 17:40. Direct - no change at Taiyuan, whatever the older guidebooks say. Make sure the ticket reads Pingyao Gucheng, the high-speed station, and not the old Pingyao station on the conventional line. A 15:15 departure means the Xi'an leg is one afternoon and one morning, and the morning ends at a ticket barrier. The CNY 148-159 band this file used to carry was a D-train fare; the booked service is a G, so it is gone rather than reused.
★ Leg 04 · Pingyao → Beijing
  • ★ D1038 · 09:29 → 14:274 a day: 07:12, 09:29, 17:43, 19:01 · China Railway G/DBooked: D1038, Pingyao Gucheng 09:29 to Beijing Qinghe 14:27, 4h58. Qinghe - not Fengtai and not Beijing North. Pingyao services land at all three and the ticket is what decides, so check yours says Qinghe. The 09:29 spends the second Pingyao morning and starts Beijing mid-afternoon; it was the right call, because after it there is an eight-hour hole until 17:43.
★ Leg 05 · Beijing → Yantai
  • ★ Shandong 7602 · 10:05 → 11:20~8 a day, 06:15 to 23:00 · Shandong Airlines (booked), also Air ChinaBooked: Shandong Airlines 7602, Beijing Capital 10:05 to Yantai Penglai 11:20. Capital, not Daxing - Daxing runs the same route three times a week in a narrow midday window. A 10:05 departure spends the Beijing morning, so Sun Oct 25 is the only whole Beijing day. Yantai's airport is 43 km from town with no metro, so book vans for the far end - taxis are CNY 130-150 and the shuttle buses take 50-110 min. The eight-a-day frequency behind this booking is a summer figure and the winter season loads Oct 25, the day before - treat it as weakened, not confirmed.
★ Leg 06 · Yantai → Hangzhou
  • ★ Loong Air GJ8822 · 16:35 → 18:35Loong Air (booked)Booked: Loong Air GJ8822, Yantai Penglai T2 16:35 to Hangzhou Xiaoshan 18:35, economy. The whole brigade is on it. It replaced Shandong 7617 into Shanghai Hongqiao on Sep 29, and with it went the Hongqiao-to-Hangzhou East evening train: the brigade now lands in Hangzhou itself, no Shanghai connection. Xiaoshan is east of the city across the Qiantang, so the last stretch is a road or metro run to the hotel, not a walk. The 16:35 departure means leaving Yantai's 43 km airport run early afternoon - earlier than the 17:30 it replaced. Frequency stays empty: the winter season loads Sun Oct 25, two days before, and no board for it has been sourced.
★ Leg 07 · Hangzhou → Shanghai
  • 200+ a day, roughly 04:00 to 23:00 · China Railway G/D, CNY 73-87Same corridor in reverse. The hour is Hangzhou to Hongqiao only - if your flight home leaves from Pudong, that is another 60-90 minutes across the city on top.Unbooked · Bought on the ground: the corridor runs 200+ a day, and rail's 15-day sale window does not open until ~Oct 15.
★ Optional, unbooked
  • Hangzhou → Suzhou · ~1h20 by rail · Budget 1h20 each way, not the 45 minutes in the itinerary. A 36-minute service does exist, but it runs Hangzhou West to Suzhou South and both of those are miles from anywhere you want to be. From Hangzhou East to Suzhou North it is about 1h20, roughly $17, and around 42 bullet trains a day.

★ The four flights and the two long rail legs are ticketed. What is left is the two short corridors - Hong Kong to Shenzhen, Hangzhou to Shanghai - bought on the ground, and rail sells on 12306 only ~15 days out, so the Shanghai one cannot be locked before mid-October anyway. Foreign passports work in the official app. This board is the group's movement order; anyone travelling their own way should read it as where everyone else will be.
