Penglai Chun

Time-honored Shandong restaurant in Yantai's Zhifu District, known for local seafood: quanjiafu hotchpotch, soft-fried oysters, and scrambled eggs with agarics. The menu displays photos of each ingredient and cooking method, which helps non-Chinese speakers order. Open daily 11:00-14:00 and 17:30-21:00.

Chaoyang Street

Commercial street first laid out in 1872 at the south foot of Yantai Hill, lined with the shops, foreign trading houses and post offices of the treaty-port era. Restored with the neighbouring Suochengli quarter and reopened in 2021, it was named a national-level night-time culture and tourism consumption area in August 2022.

Yantai's seafood/snack strip - Triple-seafood-with-menzi (rice cake stir-fried with prawns, squid, clams in tahini-garlic sauce) is the signature. Where locals eat. Walking distance from the old harbor.

烟台山景区 / 烟台山近代建筑群 (Yantai Hill scenic area + modern-era consulate buildings)

42.5 m headland at the north edge of downtown Zhifu with the Yantai Hill Lighthouse and martyrs' monument on top; its slopes hold 38 late-Qing/Republican buildings including China's densest surviving cluster of foreign consulates, a national key protected site since 2006.

YANTAI HILL (烟台山) + the old consulate district, Zhifu. A 42 m headland with sea on three sides at the top of downtown: lighthouse and martyrs' obelisk on the summit, and on the slopes 38 late-Qing/Republican buildings including China's densest surviving cluster of foreign consulates (British, US, Danish, Japanese...), a national protected site since 2006. Free; ~7:00-17:00/18:00. Ten minutes on foot from the Changyu museum.

Wangjiao Xiaoyucun (Mingzhu Haian branch)

Yantai seafood chain whose co-founder says it created haichang laofan, sea-worm rice with chives and pork, in 2015. Order that and Yantai menzi. This branch sits about 4 km up the coast from the hotel.

Dongsheng Guanjiangbao (Xinzhuang Street flagship)

Old Yantai bun shop. Order guanjiang bao, pork buns filled with broth, and the seafood haizhen tangmian bao. Open 08:00-13:30 and 16:00-19:30 as of 2024.

Sanheyuan Dumplings (Ermalu branch)

Dumpling house that traces its roots to a shop opened in 1939. Order the oversized bayu (Spanish mackerel) dumplings with pork belly and chives, plus yellow croaker dumplings.

张裕酒文化博物馆 (Changyu Wine Culture Museum)

Museum on the original 1892 site of Changyu, China's oldest and largest winery, founded by Zhang Bishi (Cheong Fatt Tze); opened 1992 around the late-19th-century underground wine cellar, a national key protected site.

CHANGYU WINE CULTURE MUSEUM (张裕酒文化博物馆), 56 Dama Rd, Zhifu, Yantai. On the original 1892 site of Changyu, China's oldest and largest winery, founded by overseas-Chinese tycoon Zhang Bishi (Cheong Fatt Tze). Museum opened 1992; the star is the late-19th-century underground cellar (national protected site). 8:00-17:00, last entry 16:30; ~¥80 (Klook ¥78); book via the museum's WeChat account. Pairs with Yantai Hill next door.
